The idyllic natural landscape of the Lungau region in Salzburg offers the perfect setting for a refreshing and reinvigorating hiking holiday. Long regarded as a pure natural living environment with distinctive traditions and high biodiversity, the Lungau region was proudly recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2012. The international UNESCO title distinguishes particularly valuable living areas. The Lungau is now the biggest UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Austria and is considered a model region for sustainable development.

This is an area where life is lived in harmony with nature and, due to high elevations above 1000 m, the Lungau enjoys a climate which is ideal for invigorating summer walking. Well-marked hiking routes will lead you to traditional Alm huts, alpine mountain lakes and lush green meadows. From kids and beginners to experienced hikers, everyone will find hiking routes to suit their level.
